macOS Tahoe (version 26) was announced at WWDC on June 9, 2025, and launched on September 15, 2025. It is named after Lake Tahoe and is the thirteenth macOS release to bear a name from the company’s home state of California. macOS Tahoe brings the biggest redesign since macOS Big Sur, introducing a new Liquid Glass design language with translucent, light-bending materials across the menu bar, Control Centre, app icons and windows. Spotlight is reworked with quick actions and smarter results, letting you take actions without ever leaving it. A new Phone app comes to the Mac through Continuity, bringing Recents, Favourites, voicemail and Live Activities across from iPhone. Apple Intelligence is expanded with Live Translation, smarter Shortcuts and improvements throughout the system, while new and updated apps include Journal, Magnifier and Games. Folders can be given custom colours, emblems and emoji, and app icons gain dark and tinted variants to match iOS and iPadOS. macOS Tahoe is also the final version of macOS to support Intel-based Macs. macOS Tahoe runs on Macs with Apple silicon and a small number of recent Intel models.
